Many do not know, concussions aren’t just “invisible injuries”—they’re also brain injuries. And, every March, millions of brain injury survivors, caregivers, families, healthcare professionals, and advocates unite for Brain Injury Awareness Month, a vital initiative led by the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA). This year, Concussion Awareness Now (CAN) will Start the Conversation by Busting Concussion Myths.

While most people would seek attention if they experience a head injury, the top reasons for not seeking medical attention include not thinking it is serious or not experiencing any symptoms or signs, according to a recent public awareness poll from BIAA. That’s why it’s so important to share facts and spread awareness about concussion causes, signs, and symptoms.

How You Can Get Involved

Here are a few ways that you can get involved in support of Brain Injury Awareness Month:

  • Join the “Sharing Your Story” webinar (February 27 at 1 p.m. ET): One of the most important aspects of spreading awareness about brain injury is sharing your story. Hear tips for how to share your story effectively during this webinar hosted by BIAA. Register here.
  • Join our “Concussion Myth Busters” webinar (March 25 at 2 p.m. ET): A panel of experts and community advocates will discuss concussion myths and provide you with facts to help you start the concussion conversation. Register today!
  • Become a CAN Champion: If you haven’t already, consider becoming a Concussion Awareness Now (CAN) Champion. As a Champion, you’ll have access to key information about brain injury prevention and recovery, be able to share evidence-based resources, and learn more about how to spread concussion awareness in your own community.   • Follow our social channels and share our concussion facts: Throughout the month, we will share concussion facts to help you start the conversation amongst friends and family and in the community. Follow our social channels, like our posts, and share them to help spread the word about the seriousness of concussions and seeking help.
