National Concussion Awareness Day is recognized each year on the third Friday of September. This year, National Concussion Awareness Day will be held on September 20. Concussion Awareness Now (CAN) is organizing a robust awareness campaign, centered on inviting awareness champions to “Start the Concussion Conversation” in their communities through a variety of online and offline engagement activities.

How You Can Get Involved

  • Become an awareness champion: As a first step, be sure you sign up as a concussion awareness champion to get access to the latest news, updates, tools and resources. Invite your friends/family/colleagues to do the same.
  • Share Concussion Awareness Now social media posts: In the leadup to National Concussion Awareness Day, CAN will be sharing resources, statistics, stories, and more to raise awareness of concussion. Share CAN posts on your own channels to make others aware of the issues.
  • Participate in the “I’m Starting the Conversation” selfie challenge: Download the printable, customize it, snap a photo, share on social media and tag Concussion Awareness Now!
  • Start the Conversation: Use CAN tools and resources such as the Conversation Starters and Quiz, and commit to talking to at least 1 friend or family member about concussion.
  • Hang posters or leave resources in community settings.
  • Host an in-person activity: Using CAN resources to help, set up a concussion presentation, table, event, or panel in your community.
  • Fundraise for the cause: Set up a fundraising page and collect donations to support concussion awareness and educational initiatives at BIAA.

Kick-off Campaign Event

During our campaign kickoff, CAN introduced new awareness tools and resources that encourage participants to start the conversation ahead of National Concussion Awareness Day. Guest speakers included members of the Thiel College Concussion Management Team, who planned a concussion awareness event on their campus earlier this year, and Cazoshay Marie, concussion survivor/advocate. Our speakers shared tips on starting the conversation, public speaking, and taking action.
